NBC is an American broadcasting T.V network, one of the largest broadcasters in the world. We will take a look at employment in NBC here.
Company History –
NBC was America’s first major broadcast network. It was founded in the year 1926 in New York City by the Radio Corporation of America. Originally, it had two networks focusing on the East Coast. One of them was the Red Network, which broadcasted entertainment and music, and the other was Blue Network, which broadcasted news. The West Coast got its version of Red and Blue in the year 1927. In the year 1931, antitrust issues forced NBC to split from General Electric. In the year 1939, RCA was ordered to spin off NBC completely. To avoid this, NBC sold Blue Networks which later became the American Broadcasting Company, known now as ABC. The company was bought again by General Electric in the year 1986. Today, NBC has 10 stations that it owns and operates and nearly 200 affiliates in US and its territories.

NBC has a lot of jobs, for experienced individuals as well as several entry-level positions.We are going to take a look at some of the entry-level positions here. Since there are several NBC segments, each offering different job opportunities, we will take a brief look at some of the segments and a job from those segments.
Sales Assistant (NBC Sports Vertical): This position belongs to the Broadcast Operations business segment and the Ad Sales sub-business. For this position, the candidate will be required to assist the sales staff in all aspects of order process. You will be responsible for the booking and stewarding of all new and revised orders into the computer system. You will answer phones, assist in administrative duties, fax and mail sales materials on a monthly basis. You will be identifying and resolving invoice discrepancies and reporting revenues. For this position, a Bachelor’s degree is and the demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office ( Word, Excel and Powerpoint) are the basic qualifications. Basic eligibility criteria are that the candidate must be willing to work in New York, NY, must be at least must be willing to submit to a background investigation.
Administrative Assistant: This position belongs to the Parks and Resorts business segment. The sub-business is Universal Studios, Hollywood. For this position, the candidate is required to provide overall administrative support to the VP, Special Events & Convention Sales (SECS), Director, Special Events Production and Director, CityWalk Entertainment & Special Events.
You will manage the Vice President’s and department Directors’ calendars, expense reports, travel arrangements, and routine correspondence, Screen all incoming calls and take appropriate action, process security clearances, reprographic and express delivery orders, office supply and maintenance orders, maintains electronic and hard-copy files in a retrievable and achievable manner. You will also schedule and coordinate meetings and/or conference calls with internal and external clients and vendors, take meeting minutes, initiate and follows-up with action items on behalf of the appropriate parties in the office. The basic requirement for this position is at least 3 years of related administrative assistant experience supporting senior level management, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), and you must be able to work 9 AM to 6 PM Monday to Friday with occasional overtime/weekend work.
Marketing Assistant: This position belongs to the business segment Cable Entertainment and Cable Studios and sub-business USA. For this position, you will be required to manage as well as update calendars, schedule meetings, reserve conference rooms, book catering and AV/IT as needed. You will be arranging business travel which includes car service, air travel and hotels. You will also manage Strategic and Digital Department expenses. You will print, copy and distribute various materials as needed. You will manage phone calls and ensure that attention is always given to the most urgent materials/requests first, create presentations focusing on digital, strategic marketing for internal and external review, assist with budgets which includes invoice tracking, vendor management and line-item inputting. For this position, the basic requirements are a Bachelor’s Degree, at least 1 year of experience working in an office environment, proficiency in Microsoft Office(Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc). You must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States, you must be willing to work in New York, willing to work overtime with short notice. You must be willing to submit to a background investigation.

In order to search for openings, click on the first link. This will take you to a screen which will let you choose Business Segment, Sub-Business, career level, Function and location. Once you have selected the appropriate choices, click on the ‘Search’ button. It will now take you to a screen listing all the available jobs along with their business segments, sub-business, function, city and country information. In order to apply for a particular position, select the job by clicking on the box near the job number. You can select multiple jobs if you wish to apply for multiple jobs. Once you have made the selections, click on the ‘Apply to Job(s)’ button on top of the page. If you just wish to read the job description and requirements, you can select the jobs and click on the ‘View Job(s)’ button. Once you click on ‘Apply to Job(s)’ button, it will ask for a login. You can create a new account by clicking on the link provided below the login fields, which says ‘click here to create a login’. You can then apply for jobs using that login on the website.

Now, coming back to the Internships page, you can see two options, one for East Coast jobs and second for West Coast. You can apply for any one of them by clicking on the ‘Apply for jobs’ link. That should take you to the Internships’ description page, where you can click on ‘Apply to Job’ button in order to apply for the internship. From there on, the procedure is same as for the application of other jobs.
